Note: Having a helper here is basically required. All vehicles should be diagnosed and repaired by qualified technicians. Fooling around with the rear mount and transmission install took the most time.ĭisclaimer: Myself or ToyotaNation are not responsible for any damage or injury that may result from use of this DIY. In reality 8-10 hours is more reasonable. That included time to take pictures, eat breakfast, setup tools, turn on the air compressor, and actually performing the job. Total time spent performing this DIY was around 11 hours. A transmission jack or some sort of transmission jack attachment would have made this job MUCH easier. Since the automatic is much heavier than the manual transmission, I would not attempt to muscle it into the car without a jack. I used an engine support bar for the making of this DIY. This DIY requires a fair amount of tools and equipment and some parts require some ingenuity to get stuff out and in. Keep in mind this job is relatively intense and is probably not a job for the true novice DIYer. This DIY is also very similar for 1998-2002 models. This DIY will apply directly for the 2005-2008 Corolla, Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe with the A245E or A246E transmission and will be nearly identical for the 2003-2004 models with these transmissions as well, with differences centered mostly on the vacuum lines and cruise control. In addition to replacing the transmission, we replaced the rear main seal, front pump seal, filter and gasket, transmission pan, and both axle seals. Hello everyone! Forum member kzsteve45 was having some issues we decided was best repaired by a transmission replacement, so I jumped on the opportunity to make a DIY.
